We spent a weekend at the YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch in January. It’s a great family place to stay near Granby, Colorado. They have so many activities available right on site, and it’s just a short drive to either Winter Park or Granby Ranch if you want to ski. We especially loved that many of their lodge rooms can sleep six people. Our room had a set of bunk beds and two queen beds, which was perfect for our family of 5.
Outdoor Activites at Snow Mountain Ranch
Snow Tubing Hill
Our favorite outdoor activity was the tubing. The kids loved it. The only downside was having to walk back up the hill with your tube. Each rider needs a tube, but we were able to go down holding on to the tube of our youngest to make her feel more comfortable. They have helmets available, or you can bring your own.
Sleigh Rides
We also took a sleigh ride. Sleigh rides are run by Sombrero Stables and not included in the cost of your stay. We ended up being the only family on our sleigh, which was awesome. The kids loved our horses Bonnie and Clyde, and we got to have hot chocolate and marshmallows before heading back to the stables. It was snowing during our ride, which was perfect!
They also have ice skating and cross country skiing, which we didn’t try.
Indoor Activites at Snow Mountain Ranch
Swimming
Snow Mountain ranch has an indoor pool. Kids do need to have the lifeguard give them a swim test before accessing certain parts of the pool. There is a slide and volleyball net in the main part of the pool. They have a climbing wall, basketball hoop and diving well that can only be accessed if you pass the swim test. Pool toys, noodles, and puddle jumper swim aids are available for guests to use. Towels are provided as well, so you won’t need to bring them!
The Kiva
The Kiva is their indoor gym area. They have rollerskating, basketball, ping pong, pool, and just a lot of space to burn off energy!
In the Kiva, you can also enjoy a rock climbing session and/or indoor archery classes for a small fee. It was $6 when we visited. We signed up in advance on the website, but you can also sign up in person.
My Tips
If you’re able to, it’s best to visit on a weekday. It will be less busy and likely less cost per night as well.
Consider bringing some of your own food or leaving the property for some meals. Their food options include a buffet style restaurant and a grill, both the prices are a bit on the high side.
Wow, this would be great. Kids would love it and it would be fun for adults, too.
