While we were skiing at A-Basin last weekend, we decided to visit the Ice Castles in Dillon, Colorado before we drove home. I’ve been wanting to visit the ice castles for a while, so this seemed like the perfect way to get two fun activities out of one drive! I took a million pictures, and I’ll share my favorites in this post along with some tips for your visit!
Are the Ice Castles Kid Friendly?
Yes, definitely! There are crawl tunnels for the kids to play in, along with several slides. My kids wanted to go down the slides over and over.
How long should I expect to spend at the Ice Castles?
The ice castle was actually much bigger than I was expecting. We spent about an hour and a half there. I could see spending anywhere between 1-2 hours. If you’re bringing kids and they enjoy the tunnels and slides, you could easily spend an hour just on those. We also spent time watching the fountain and enjoying the changing colors in different areas.
When is the best time to go?
You have to reserve a specific time to visit. We chose to go at 5 pm so we could see the ice castle in the daylight as well as lit up for the night. It’s definitely warmer while the sun is up, so you may want to keep that in mind if you are bringing young children.
Here are the highlights of the Ice Castles that I posted on Instagram (including a video of the slides):
