I read an article recently about how kids are spending little time outdoors. This is heartbreaking, because outdoor play is so important. I learned so many valuable lessons by playing outdoors as a child. And, some of my favorite memories with my little ones are playing outdoors.

The Benefits of Outdoor Play

Outdoor play is one of the few times kids can really be free these days. They can run, have fun and just be kids. Outdoor play is important for teaching children persistence, leadership, and bravery. Meeting and playing alongside other kids at the playground is also great for social skills.

Importance of Outdoor Play

Research has also shown that playing outdoors can help kids have healthier and happier lifestyles that they carry into adulthood.

Outdoor play is a great time for parents to join in the fun and bond with their children. Whether you’re pushing your toddler in a swing or racing your preschooler down the slide, you’re sure to make their day by spending quality time with them!

Do you remember the first time your child went down a tall slide or tried a climbing wall? These features encourage kids to push their limit and take reasonable risks.

When kids play outdoors, they make a great connection with nature. We love finding grasshoppers or watching the geese in the lake when we explore our local parks. My kids are always on the lookout for the next discovery.

Outdoor Play Ideas

The best type of outdoor play is often unstructured, where kids can come up with their own ideas. However, if you need some ideas to get them started, here are a few things my kids like to do outdoors!
