Are you looking for gift ideas for your 8 or 9 year old boy? Or, maybe you’re just looking to add a few fun books to your library. Here are some of our favorites for that age range!
The Stink series
These have an easy reading level and are great for early chapter books. They have some educational aspects, but are mostly just fun reading material. Boys love the name Stink, and everyone is happy! Check out an excerpt on the author’s website!
A to Z mysteries
The 26 mysteries for The Absent Author to The Zombie Zone are sure to grab your childs interest. The reading level is pretty easy, and they are pretty quick to read. They’re a good step up if you child enjoyed the Magic Treehouse Series.
Doodle Adventures
These doodle adventures are fun for your artsy, creative kids. There are prompts throughout the story where you can add you own drawings. Titles include The Pursuit of the Pesky Pizza Pirate, The Search for Slimy Space Slugs, and The Rise of Rusty Robo Cat.
From a parent perspective, these are fun to go through the first time, but not as likely to be read again.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid series
Diary of a Wimpy Kid books are really popular right now. The reading level is appropriate for an average 7-8 year old. However, there’s a lot a potty humor in the book, so your child may or may not be ready for that. The main character is a middle schooler, and these books can be good for reluctant readers in the upper elementary grades.
