We love to spend time outdoors hiking and camping. My son always seems to attract bugs, and he is really prone to getting bug bites. So, we have to use some kind of bug repellent anytime we’re in nature. However, I don’t like all of the harmful ingredients in most commercially available bug repellent sprays. Luckily, I can make my own all natural bug repellent spray with some essential oils and a few other ingredients. If your family spends a lot of time outdoors, you’ll want to make this, too!
All Natural Bug Repellent Spray Ingredients
• 1/4 cup witch hazel
• 1/4 cup distilled water
• 10-15 drops lemongrass essential oil
• 10-15 drops citronella essential oil
• 10-15 drops lavender essential oil
• 10-15 drops patchouli essential oil
(For kids under 10, decrease drops of essential oils from 10-15 to 5)
• 2-3 drops Argan oil
• 1 teaspoon Vitamin E oil
All Natural Bug Repellent Spray Instructions
Step 1: First, you’ll add witch hazel and distilled water to bowl.
Step 2: Next, add all of your essential oils. Remember to cut back the number of drops if you’ll be using this on children.
Step 3: Add the Vitamin E oil.
Step 4: Add the Argan oil.
Step 5: Mix all of the ingredients together.
Step 6: Pour mixture into a spray bottle. I prefer glass spray bottles when working with essential oils.
Step 7: Spray on skin immediately before heading outdoors and continue to apply as necessary. You’ll know you need to use more when the scent disappears. This oil is safe for all skin types, but keep the spray away from eyes.
