We love getting out of the house and spending time as a family, so I wanted to share our favorite family friendly activities in Colorado Springs!

Garden of the Gods

With plenty of freedom to roam around, this is great for kids. It’s also a great place to take out of town guests. The trails vary in difficulty. The Central Garden Trail is paved and stroller friendly and is an easy stroll through the main part of the park formations. If you’re looking for something a little more challenging, the Siamese Twins Trail has an awesome view of Pikes Peak through the rocks. The park has a Visitor Center and a Trading Post with gifts and a restaurant. There is no entry fee.

North Pole – Santa’s Workshop

This one isn’t technically in Colorado Springs, but it’s just minutes away at the base of Pikes Peak. The North Pole is a big hit with younger children. Toddler through elementary school is the best time for a visit. You can stop by Santa’s house to give him your list and shop in their themed shops. There are amusement rides for all ages, from little cars for toddlers to a zip line for adults. Plan to spend several hours, if not more. Food is available for purchase within the park or you can bring your own.

Helen Hunt Falls and Starsmore Discovery Center

The falls and discovery center are both located with North Cheyenne Canon Park, just a few minutes apart. The park has no entry fee. There’s a short walk to Helen Hunt Falls and the seasonal visitor center. If you continue past the falls, you’ll find a more challenging hike on the Silver Cascade Trail that takes you to another higher set of falls. At the base of the park, you’ll find the Starsmore Discovery Center with interpretative displays. Kids can also participate in a junior ranger program to learn more about the area.

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

One of the best known attractions in Colorado Springs, the Cheyenne Mountain zoo is great for guests of all ages! This is an all day attraction and your visit also includes a visit to the Will Rogers Shrine, if you’re interested. It’s a 1.4 mile drive up the side of Cheyenne Mountain to this historic spot. Our favorite area within the zoo is the giraffes. You can pay a small fee to feed them. Plan your visit on a cool day to see lots of activity from the animals.

Bear Creek Nature Center

The nature center is one of our favorite activities in Colorado Springs. It is a great place to learn more about the plants and animals in our part of Colorado. The indoor part of the nature center has some interactive displays and frequent programs for kids and families. My kids love the area to learn about bees and see and active hive! There are also short hiking trails that are a great length for younger kids.
